If your travels take you to the popular area, consider spending some Sunday time at some of the popular, all-year outdoor markets there. In addition to used clothing and household items, there are fresh foods and other goodies to enjoy while you roam. Favorites include:

Rose Bowl Flea Market, 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., Pasadena CA 9110. This very popular event is at the famous sports stadium ten miles east of Los Angeles. It’s open only on the second Sunday of each month, but he huge display often has as many as 2,500 vendors on the field, gathered in specialty groups depending on their wares.

Items for sale range from produce, specialty foods, major appliances, furniture, antiques, clothing, game, electronics and fine art.

Long Beach Outdoor Antique & Collectible Market, 4901 E. Conant St., Long Beach CA 90808. It’s 30 miles south of Los Angeles along the Pacific Ocean coast. It operates in the Long Beach Veterans Stadium on the third Sunday of each month. It hosts up to 1,000 vendors, and Los Angeles Magazine has called it the best swap meet in Southern California. 

3. The Melrose Trading Post, 7850 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. Located at the corner of Fairfax and Melrose Avs., on the parking lot of Fairfax High School, it’s open every Sunday, and just up the street from the Los Angeles Farmers Market, now called The Grove.

It’s a more intimate flea market, with only 200 vendors, so you can scan it all in just an hour or so. In addition to the usual used clothing and household items, The Melrose Trading Post often also features original arts and crafts creations by local artists

4. Santa Monica Airport Outdoor Antique and Collectible Market, 3050 Airport Av., Santa Monica, CA 90405. This facility is open on the first and fourth Sunday of every month. It’s right across the street from the beach city’s airport, and usually features 200 vendors. Among the usual goods, vendors offer antiques, original sculpture, Persian carpets and other valuable goods.

5. New Venice Flea Market, 2121 Lincoln Bvd., Los Angeles CA 90291. This flea market is open Saturdays and Sundays, and is a great place to stroll through while spending a day of sunning and relaxing at Venice Beach. It features the usual flea market furniture and clothing, along with some interesting original paintings from the Venice art colony.
