Southwest allows pets to fly with human seatmates |

As of June 17, Southwest welcomes customers to bring dogs and cats on board for $75 each. However, it applies only to those tiny Tabbies and Totos that can be stuffed into pet carriers that fit under the passenger’s cabin seat. Damn, I was hoping to fly my Great Dane, Duke, to Las Vegas on SW next month! Maybe if I offer to buy two more seats ...
Previously, low-cost, bare-bones airline SW never allowed pets. That’s the good news, but make sure you know the rules. For pet-toting passengers who usually travel loaded down with computers, handbags and carry-on suitcases, should be forewarned that the pet carrier counts as a carry-on bag.
If you plan to fly with all that gear plus Fido or Fluffy in a pet bag, check first with www.southwest.com or call your travel agent for clarification of the rules and costs.
Are you ready to say some heartfelt, pet-loving aaaawwwwsssss at the cleverly creative name? The airline’s promotion is known as P.A.W.S., which means "Pets Are Welcome on Southwest." |
