Las Vegas NV: Be Aware Of $19.99 Room Ads

Of course, Sin City isn’t called that for nuthin’. Let’s call it the sin of gotcha about room rates! That bargain charge will show at the top of the list when you check out, but then is followed by all kinds of extra charges. They always raise what you actually pay to as much as double the advertised price.

Piled on are taxes and other add-ons, including the city’s infamous resort fees. Just recently, Caesars Palace, Paris, Rio, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand upped their per-day extra charges to as much as $45 a night above their rates.

So, next time you book a $19.99 Las Vegas room, be prepared to pay an add-on charge that will subtract-off a considerable amount from your bank account!

Guest Writer Pamela J., Westwood CA: Doris Day sang about springtime in Paris. We enjoy visiting the beautiful city any time of year. We never fail to have a marvelous experience, whether in a quiet neighborhood inn or upscale hotel. Some hints for having fun days in Paris:

Champs Elysees: Though often filled with tourists, we enjoy wandering this famous street. The InterContinental Paris Avenue Marceau is there, and offers terrace suites for enjoying a more luxurious experience and views of the famed avenue. Eiffel Tower: A must-see for first time visitors.Elevators are available to get to the middle level. I recommend lunch at Le Jules Verne restaurant there. Now it’s one of the city's best since chef Alain Ducasse took over several years ago.

Arch Of Triumph: Erected by Napoleon in 1836 to celebrate his war victories. The roof terrace is available for strolling, and offers postcard views of the city. Adult admission is about $10.

The Louvre: It's best to start with a guided tour. The museum offers the Louvre Masterpieces tour in English several times a day. The 90-minute program hits all the famous works of art with interesting comments.

Walking: Strolling the Champs Elysees, a Paris tradition, is a great way to spend an afternoon. Be sure to check out L'Atelier Renault, an interesting exhibition space and restaurant featuring new developments from the French automaker. Take an evening stroll along Rive Le Siene, a romantic interlude enjoyed by lovers age 18 to 80.
