When in Philly, tour the Independence Hall National Park, and be sure to take a moment or two to see the famed Liberty Bell. If you remember your history, four days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it rang out on July 8, 1776, to “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”.

Liberty Bell

Other words etched on the Bell are, "By Order of the Assembly of the Province of Pensylvania for the State House in Philada." For grammarians who say the state name needs another n, that was the way it was spelled until the early 1800s.

The Bell is housed in its own glassed-in building across the square from Independence Hall. There is no charge, but all visitors first must go through a security screening.
