Retiring USN Sea Dog Can't Stay Away from the Sea PDF Print E-mail

Q: I’m about to retire after more than 35 years with the Navy. Because I enlisted when I was young, I still feel hale and healthy enough to take on a new career as I’m about to hit age 55. My kids are grown and on their own, and I’ve been widowed for more than a decade. I enjoyed my years of sea duty, and am interested in joining the crew of a cruise ship.

My rate at retirement is Senior Chief Mass Communications Specialist (E9), and I’ve had considerable experience in managing office personnel, correspondence, event planning, graphics, video production, the internet, security, training recruits and other skills. I’ll have good retirement income with no dependents, so salary isn’t that much of an issue. What do you suggest?

Should We Take Our Little Granddaughter To Branson? PDF Print E-mail

Q: We’re booked for a week in Branson to see all the shows, and have invited our granddaugter to go with us. She’s six and a very bright, active girl. Other than the country and western stage entertainment, what’s there to do in Branson for someone her age?

A: The are kinds of good stuff for kids to enjoy in Branson, especially the water rides. Try the Raging River Rapids at White Water and put on your bathing suits to join your granddaughter for the thrilling slide down 400 feet. Nearby is RainTree Island with even more kiddie (and grannie) water and tube-riding fun at the Bermuda Triangle, Tropical Twister and the Caribbean and Paradise Plunges.

On my first cruise, how do I cope with a gloomy roomie? PDF Print E-mail

Q: Teachers from our school have booked a four-night spring break cruise from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas. There will be about 25 of us, and the all-inclusive price is great, about $300 each, double occupancy. All of the others are bringing spouses, but I’m one of the only two singles, and have been assigned to share a cabin with another woman. My problem is that I'm 55, she ‘s a retired teacher aged at least 80 and very conservative. This is my first cruise, so will I be trapped with this elderly lady while all the others are having fun? Should I cancel?
