Humor In The Air: These Give A Flying Yuk PDF Print E-mail

Southwest is one of our favorite airlines. In addition to its great ability to get to destinations on time at somewhat reasonable prices, Southwest crew members are the best stand-up comedians in the air. Here are several examples we heard on recent flights:

This is Betty, your flight attendant, with a message to our women passengers. We have a full flight, so we can’t change your seat if the man in the next seat is bothering you. However, if he’s young, rich and good-looking, I’ll be glad to exchange my seat with yours.

Immediate Steps When Your Credit Card Disappears PDF Print E-mail

Guest Senior Traveler BCC, Phoenix AZ: I swim mornings at a community outdoor pool. There are no lockers, so I usually leave valuables in my locked car in the parking lot.

I thought I’d made the mistake one day of putting my wallet on a table next to the pool. There were only two or three other swimmers and a maintenance guy there. When I came out of the pool, I looked for my wallet.

I asked the guys if they had seen it. None said he had. Anyhow, I may have dropped it out of my car earlier while getting out at the pool. I still don't know what happened to it.

Seattle WA Pike Place Market Welcomes Senior Travelers PDF Print E-mail

For more than a century the huge waterfront market has offered shops featuring fresh meat, seafood and poultry. Also candy, cake, veggie and fruit stands, florists, gift shops and great restaurants.

Chomping down on scrumptious Washington State apples and cherries fresh picked from nearby orchards may be a highlight of your visit. Also, Pike Place’s most famous attraction and photo target is the ceremony of the throwing of the fish.

The enormous variety of fresh seafood draws locals from miles around. Additionally, the Pike Place fish mongers sell preserved seafood products for tourists to take with them, as well as package and mail as gifts for the folks at home.

If you’re driving, be aware of the limited parking spaces at Pike Place Market. It could cost $20 to $40 for a multi-hour visit. Consider going by bus or cab. pikeplacemarket.org

Las Vegas NV: Paris Resort Eiffel Tower Experience PDF Print E-mail

Maybe it isn’t the original, but it is an impressive 3/5th replica of it, the tallest structure in Las Vegas (540 feet), and offers spectacular day and night 360 degree viewing. From the observation deck, you can see the glittering city below, busy sky activity at nearby Las Vegas Airport, surrounding desert and mountains. There’s a glass-paneled elevator to take you up, as well as to the glitzy Eiffel Tower Restaurant about halfway to the top.

Except on very windy days, when the tower is closed, it welcomes visitors daily from 9:30 am to 12:30 after midnight. Ticket prices vary, depending on time of day and night. Many Vegas hotels offer half-price or free tickets to guests. Other ticket deals are available for groups.

Q: How Do I Prevent Credit Card Rip-Off? PDF Print E-mail

MMcT, Madison WI: I’ll be traveling in Europe this season, and worried about credit card identity theft. A friend had her card imprint stolen by a Taiwan restaurant worker, and the next month she got a bill for more than $5,750.

A: First, check with your credit card company to see what protections and/or theft insurance you have. In today’s high tech world, there’s actually no way to be absolutely sure some high tech thief can’t hack your card. Reduce the risk with a low-limit card credit card, such as a top amount of $1,000 or less. Then, use only that card while traveling.

Another way to avoid theft is not to take a credit card. Before leaving home, prepay for air travel, hotel, cruise and other anticipated major expenses. Then buy American Express or other travelers’ checks in amounts of $100 each. For incidental purchase and cash on trips, use ‘em as you need ‘em.
